BID TO HALT MASTITIS

Udder Damage Being Studied (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, January 13. An American and a New Zealand scientist are working together at Ruakura Animal Research Station on a project that may lead to prevention of mastitis in cows. They are Dr. R. G. Whittleston, a Ruakura scientist and world authority on problems of lactation, and Mr M. S. Beckley, extension officer at Santa Clara County for the University of California. Dr. Whittlestone has just returned after nearly six years in Australia where he built up a dairy husbandly research unit for Sydney University.

The pair will work on a project of finding a better way to .'etermine the damage caused by milking to the cow’s udder. This damage is one of the main causes of mastitis.
