Chappel Halts Collapse

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BRISBANE, Jan. 12. A polished 110 not out by 20-year-old I. Chappel held South Australia together in a Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at Brisbane yesterday. When bad light stopped play, 20 minutes before stumps, South Australia had lost six wickets for 230, in reply to Queensland’s first innings total of 368. Chappel, a grandson of the former test cricketer, V. Richardson, maintained a vigorous defence as the wickets fell around him. He batted 245 minutes, and hit 16 fours.
