Miss Brophy is Irish and I the latest in a long succes- . sion of Irish wits who sharpen their claws on the supposed shortcomings of the English. As a result the English admire her very much. Her most recent novel. ‘The Finishing Touch,” about a school for aristocratic girls, receives nice notices. She writes "beautifully mannered prose,” said one critic, “briefly, lightly and well.” She is 35 and daughter of another author.
