Racing Drivers Arrive In New Zealand

AUCKLAND, Dec. 27.

The Australian racing driver, John You, a grazier from Tasmania, arrived in Auckland last night for the Mount Maunganui Grand Prix tomorrow, but it was a tight squeeze to get his Cooper 2.5 litre there in time. The car arrived in Wellington on Monday and because there were no papers for its clearance a temporary set was arranged. The Wellington driver. Rex Flowers, spent Christmas Day, and some of Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, getting the car ready. The car was put on a trailer in Wellington late last night for the haul to the Mount.

Frank Matich. of Sydney, with his new Brabham, has also arrived.

Timmy Mayer, the United States driver, who will team with Bruce McLaren in the international motor races in New Zealand and Australia this season, is due in Auckland tomorrow morning with his wife from Nandi. The two Cooper racing cars

which McLaren and Mayer will drive arrived about 10 days ago with the mechanics. Wally Willmott and Tyler Alexander.

McLaren and Jack Brabham are the only drivers who are not now in the country. Both will be racing tomorrow in South Africa in the final world championship Grande Epreuve at East London—the South African Grand Prix. McLaren and Brabham will have an extremely tight flight schedule to maintain to arrive from South Africa in time for the first international race at Levin tomorrow week. All of the cars are in the country except for the 2.5 Lola, which 20-year-old Chris Amon, of Bulls, will drive. Amon's car is due to arrive at Wellington on Monday in the Sydney Star, but if there should be any unloading problems caused by the New Year holidays. Amon’s team will have to work fast to have the car adequately prepared for the Levin races. Brabham's car arrived in Auckland Last week and Dems Hulme’s similar car is due tomorrow.
