TWICKENHAM, December 26.

Twickenham was soggy under its coating of seven tons of straw, water oozing up from a firmly trodden foot. Behind the twenty-fives, w here there had been no covering, a thick sole of grass made conditions rather better.

After Herewini kicked off, Nathan surged through a melee of players and when he was taken five yards from the line, Caulton whipped in to cross. However, it was a knock-on as he picked up.

New Zealand 15, Services 6 Immediately, the New Zealand backs were away with Herewini up and kicking through. Caulton cleverly controlled the ball on the ground and Macßae joined in to pick up and sprint across by the flag. Herewini converted beautifully. New Zealand 20, Services 6 After 28 minutes, Herewini was spot on with a penalty from the twenty-five and the All Blacks led 23-6.
