Nathan Prominent In Early N.Z. Attacks

TWICKENHAM, December 26.
Twickenham was soggy under its coating of seven tons of straw, water oozing up from a firmly trodden foot. Behind the twenty-fives, w here there had been no covering, a thick sole of grass made conditions rather better.
After Herewini kicked off, Nathan surged through a melee of players and when he was taken five yards from the line, Caulton whipped in to cross. However, it was a knock-on as he picked up.
A penalty, then a tighthead to Bruce took Services back, but New Zealand responded with another big break by Nathan when served by Laidlaw. Services hooked on their twenty-five, but Palin's kick was charged down by Nelson. Nathan swept in, passed to Davis, and the winger dived over in the corner. Herewini sliced his kick.
New Zealand 3, Services 0 Hie New Zealand backs passed superbly and Davis whisked inside to take MacRae's pass. He beat two men. running with fine pace, but his kick ahead halted the movement, with Services covering.
Herewini missed a fairly easy shot at goal but within a few minutes landed one from a similar angle. New Zealand 6. Services 0 Services attacked under a high kick by Thomas, but again New Zealand ran the ball back to half-way.
Herewini tried another shot from 35 yards and wide but it dropped short. Services. playing with genuine spirit, attacked again
and Brown stabbed into the twenty-five. From a scrum, New Zealand was penalised and from the twenty-five McDonald kicked the goal. New Zealand 6, Services 3 New Zealand’s reaction was swift. Caulton fed Laidlaw and Kirton took the pass, sprinting down the touch. He made good ground before passing to Meads who ran 30 yards, tossed in a couple of dummies and scored in the comer.
New Zealand 9, Services 3 New Zealand started the second spell with a roar. First Davis probed through the centre. Then Herewini
was into the line again to feed Caulton.
The winger beat his man and ducked inside the fullback to plant the ball for the try in the corner. New Zealand 12, Services 3 Services were away from the kick-off and the forwards bustled Herewini inside the New Zealand twenty-five. They fed on the short side, through Palin and Godfrey, for Brown to score on the flag. New Zealand 12, Services 6 Herewini kicked his second penalty after 18 minutes, a good angled kick from 35 yards.
New Zealand 15, Services 6 Immediately, the New Zealand backs were away with Herewini up and kicking through. Caulton cleverly controlled the ball on the ground and Macßae joined in to pick up and sprint across by the flag. Herewini converted beautifully. New Zealand 20, Services 6 After 28 minutes, Herewini was spot on with a penalty from the twenty-five and the All Blacks led 23-6.
A line-out penalty against New Zealand, 38 yards out gave McDonald the opportunity to kick a good goal New Zealand 23, Services 9
