Controls Lifted On Turkeys

OTTAWA. Turkeys have been deleted from the Canadian import control list under the Export and Import Permits Act, and permits are no longer required. The import restrictions on turkeys were imposed in mid-1957, and, recently, the annual import quota has been 4,000,0001 b. Since the controls Were imposed, the Canadian turkey industry has experienced substantial improvement in production and marketing techniques. In 1962, about 2,500,0001 b of turkeys were imported into Canada. There have been practically no imports in the first eight months of 1963.
Top Performer.—Sandy Koufax, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been named “Man Of The Year” and top performer in baseball for 1963 by “Sports’’ magazine, the Associated Press reported. —(P.A.)
