COOKING UP POLE

Christmas Meal For Husband

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27

Mrs M. Authers, the only woman entrant in a polesitting contest at Kawerau, cooked a traditional Christmas dinner in her pole-top “home” and lowered her husband’s share in a bucket. She is one of five pole-sit-ters who have been living on their 20ft perches for the last 12 days in the hope of winning the £lOO prize for the sitter who stays up the longest.

Heavy rain and strong winds last week apparently did not affect the contestants, although travel sickness pills were given to them to combat nausea induced by the swaying of the platforms.
