CRICKET Rain Helps St. Albans Increase Its Lead
The boisterous week-end weather helped St. Albans to increase its slender senior cricket championship lead. With the cancellation of play on Saturday, points were awarded on the games as they stood the previous week, which gave St. Albans a first innings win.
The only other team to improve its position materially was Sydenham, which had also established a first-innings lead. St. Albans, two points in front at the end of the fifth round, now leads by seven points. In the drawn games, each side scored two points.
In the final series of first-round matches beginning on January 18, St. Albans plays West Chris tcburchUniversity, Old Boys meet Riccarton, Lancaster Park plays Old Collegians, and Sydenham is drawn against East ChristchurchShirley. Sixth round results:— St Albans 244/8 best Eaat-Shlrley 89 on the first inning*. Sydenham 212/8 beat OM Collegians 115 on the first Innings. Lancaster Park 213 drew with Old Boys 84/4. Riccarton 295 drew with West-University 197/3.
