Pit Stops
A new G.T. Porsche with a top speed of about 130 miles an hour has been announced in Germany. Coaling £2650 in Germany the car has been designed especially for racing and has a 1966 c.c. four-cylin-der engine producing 180 b.h.p. The five-speed gearbox is fully synchronised and file suspension is simi'lair to that of the Porsche formula one car. * ¥ ¥
The Ford Taunus, which has already broken more than 100 world distance and speed records at Miramas. France, is still running. The next target hoped for is to pass a mark of about 223,000 miles, which is the shortest distance from the earth to the moon. ¥ ¥ ¥
The two SciroccoB.R.M. cars wfiach appeared in several championship races this season have been purchased by R. Parnell.
Ford of the United States is once again entering a team of Falcons in the Monte Carlo rally. One of the cars will be driven by Graham Hill, who will start from Paris. Ford of Britain has entered a team of five Cortina G.T.s. B.M.C. entries include several Mini Cooper S-type and an MG B. The Rootes group has entered a Hillman Imp and some Sunbeam Rapiers, and Triumph has entered two TR4s. ¥ ¥ ¥
It is expected toe next formula one, which will probably come into force in 1965, will be for cars of 3000 c.c. non-super-charged or 1500 c.c. supercharged. It may be possible to modify existing formula one engines to the new formula at a cost considerably less than that for the development of a new engine. An official anouncement on the new formula is expected soon.
