Presentations At Lyttelton
Two men who have had a [.long association with Lyttelton were bidden farewell at ! a social function in the port. Both are retiring. Mr H. D. Wales, chief clerk of the Lyttelton branch of the Union Steam Ship Company, began as a message boy in the Lyttelton Post Office in 1915. but in 1919 he joined the Union company and has remained there for nearly 45 years. Mr Wales, who formerly lived in Lyttelton, moved to Christchurch eight years ago. Mr A. E. Carter, a customs officer who joined the Government service in 1923 and transferred to the customs in 1937, has spent 25 years at the Lyttelton branch and also lives in Christchurch.
The harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) made presentations.
Haircuts.— Men's haircuts will go up by Is to 7s throughout Victoria from today. Boys’ haircuts will also go up by Is to 5s 6d. “Special” hairstyles, such as Crewe cuts, will now cost Bs. also Is dearer.—(Melbourne, December 11.)
