Brown’s Fast Sprint Wins Two-Mile Race A Tyre
Outstanding riding by the cash cyclists and the F. C. Williams two-mile wheelrace, won by K. Brown, were the highlights of the Track Cycling Clubs meeting at English Park on Wednesday night. Giving away 350 yards. Brown was on the scratch mark on his own and it took him two laps to make contact with the other riders. With half the distance covered the field was in three bunches, the leaders 70 yards ahead on the second bunch, with another 40 yards to the third bunch. With three laps remaining the back markers had linked with those in front, and the field coming in for the bell was fairly tightly bunched. J. Blackmon led round to the end of the back straight when K. Jeffery sprinted into the lead. Brown immediately moved round Blackmun, but entering the straight Jeffery seemed to have the race in hand. However, a brilliant final sprint by Brown gave him the decision by a tyre. CASH EVENTS One Mile Handicap.—First heat: K. Campion (165yds) 1. K. Brown (scr) 2. D. Swanston (15) 3, K. Jeffery (10) 4.
