TRIALS AT OTAKI
Dashing Star Goes Well
“The Press' Special Service WELLINGTON, Dec. 12.
Dashing Star and Trawlerman, working separately, ran good triads at Otaki today for the first day of the meeting there on Saturday. S. McGreal’s three sprinters. Fine Time, Fair Symbol, and Purserette. all galloped i strongly. Fair Symbol emerged as a threat to her i more-fancied stablemate, Fine [Time, in the second leg. the ' Huia Handicap. No hack worked faster than Fair Citation, though Pomare also made a big impression. The two-year-old Mighty Nice drew attention to her chance against the favourite, Rashid, with a smart halfmile.
Fast work was on the plough and the trial grass, and some exceptional times were recorded.
Dashing Star was smartly into stride and still going strongly after six furlongs in Imin Ifisec. She looks well and the bigger track at Otaki will suit her better than Levin. Trawlerman easily beat Determined over six furlongs in Imin 15 2-ssec, and came the laat three in the same time as Dashing Star, 38 4-ssec. Trawlennan is fit, but Determined was disappointing. Fine Time bad Sand Boy beaten,, though there was not much between them, after five furlongs in Imin. It was an excellent gallop, apart from the fast time. If L N. McCutcheon is near the weight, 7-9, he will ride Fine Time. Fair Symbol and Purserette were together after covering the same distance in Imin 0 4-teec Fair Symbol has not raced since May.
