FIRE DAMAGES EMPTY HOUSE

Police Inquiry

The police are making inquiries to ascertain the cause of a fire which severely damaged the back of a house at 38 Tonks street. North New Brighton last evening.

The house had been unoccupied for a week. The fire alarm was given at 6.20 p.m. Two engines from the New Brighton and one from the Central fire stations attended. The back of the house, a wooden bungalow with leanto roof at the rear, was well alight when the firemen got there. Firemen used breathing apparatus to enter the smoke-filled house. The kitchen and two other rooms were gutted.
