BACONER TRIALS
Experiment At Massey (N.Z. Press Association) PALM. NORTH, Dec. 11. Massey College has a new piggery to house 64 pigs. It cost £7600. At present 16 pigs are being fed on whey and animal fat to see if pigs can be fattened on this diet. Mr A, C. Dunkin, senior Lecturer in pig husbandry at the college, who was responsible for the design of the building, said it would not be really known until the pigs were killed if this form of feed produced fat carcases. Animal fat had been combined with whey because it was a concentrated form of energy. Whey on its own was a “weak food.” The pigs being trial fed are about nine weeks old and will be killed when they reach bacon weight—between 1801 b and 1901 b.
With the development of coastal roads and tourist traffic, there is already a ■boom in the sale of land suitable for the construction of villas along the Greek coast or on the islands.— Reuter.
