WITHDRAWAL OF SAVINGS
Christinas Trend Noticeable An indication that Christmas buying has begun is given in the Post Office Savings Bank's figures for the last week or so. Last week deposits exceeded withdrawals in Christchurch by £llO,OOO, but for the last three days withdrawals have exceeded deposits by £45.000. “I think it will get busier yet,” said Mr J. W. Lincoln, the Deputy-Chief Poutmaster. Mir Lincoln said the stampcancellation machines showed that Monday’s posting in Christchurch was 214,000 double the usual day’s total. On Tuesday it was up to 252,000. Postmen were working from 7 a.m. to 9 pjn., but today they would get 33 schoolboys to help them—and another 22 tomorrow. Mr Lincoln said that interest in the university examination results had kept tolls exceptionally busy, and they were now handling 8000 calls a day in Christchurch.
