AUCKLAND’S SHIELD XI
Five Playing First Time (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 11. J. Carson, an 18-year-oid lefthanded batsman who is in his last week at school, has been chosen for the Auckland Piunket Shield cricket team for the first two matches of the season —against Canterbury at Christchurch. and Otago at Dined in.
Carson is one of five players to the side who have not played first-class cricket for Auckland.
The others are: K. Taylor, the Yorkshire professional; N. S. Harford, the former NewZealand player from Central Districts; and H. J. Howarth and J. D. Behrent, w’ho have both been twelfth man for Auckland in previous seasons. The team is: J. T. Sparling (captain). J. D. Behrent, J. Carson, R. S. Cunis, S. G. Gedye, N. S. Harford, H. J. Howarth, R. W, Morgan. W. R. Playle, R. E. Sutton, K. Taylor, E. R. Tovey. The side will play Canterbury on December 26. 27. and 28, and Otago on December 30, 31. and January 1.
