CONTROL OF ESTUARY
Investigation By Council
Investigations into the question of the Christchurch City Council accepting control of the Estuary and the tidal reaches of the Heathcote and Avon rivers were at present being made, the town clerk (Mr C. S Bowie) informed the Canterbury Rowing Association by letter last evening. In his letter Mr Bowie said; “The council is at present investigating the question of accepting control of the Estuary and tidal reaches of the Heathcote and Avon rivers under the appropriate section of the Harbours Act. “This matter, as you will no doubt appreciate, requires much consideration and a sub-committee has been set ]up to study the ramification ■of control. The sub-com milI tee has been in close liaison with both the Marine Depart- ! ment and the Christchurch Drainage Board during recent weeks and as soon as a decision is reached a further reply will be sent to you.’" Mr Bowie said.
