E.E.C. Talks Begin

Ministers of Agriculture of the six Common Market countries met here today for the start of a marathon session to last, with only short intervals, until December 21. The Six have set themselves an end-of-year deadline to make a package deal of important decisions towards completing their agricultural policy, and the adoption of a position tor next year’s multi-lateral tariff negotiations in GA.T.T. Among the agricultural problems to be solved are adoption of common regulations for beef, dairy products and rice, the final adoption of a financial regulation tor a fund to finance farm exports to non-memlber countries, and add to farmers, and the setting of community cereal prices tor 1964-65. The council, presided over by the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Mir B. W. Biesheuvel, began its meeting today with a discussion of a regulation for the community’s rice market.
