‘Serious Threat To Democracy’
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) BRISBANE, Dec. 9
The Democratic Labour Party was a disgrace and a serious threat to democracy in Australia, the Church of England newspaper. the “Anglican,” said yesterday. In an editorial reviewing the Federal election results, it said that the Government parties and the Australian Labour Party had played the political game decently—it had been a hard, clean fight. “The dirty fighting, the despicable lies and misrepresentations in this campaign came solely from the D.L.P.,” the “Anglican” said. “This is a party, in our view, whose tactics are utterly beneath contempt. It is a disgrace—and a serious threat—to democracy in Australia. “It is a party of the blackest reaction, sustained by an unholy alliance between clericalism and large-scale capitalism, indistinguishable in any respect from the Italian Fascist or German Nazi Parties of the 30’s,” said the “Anglican.”
