CHRISTMAS TREAT

Strawberries From N.Z. (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 29. When the All Blacks sit down to Christmas dinner at their Mayfair, London, hotel, they will eat New Zealand strawberries. An Auckland firm is flying 90 chips of strawberries by special jet freight to the touring party. The consignment is due on Christmas Eve. Starting on Sunday, the firm will be sending weekly batches of strawberries by air to Tahiti. This seasonal trading will last about six weeks and 600 chips will be flown each week. The company recently sent a trial consignment of 15 chips to Britain. The trip took 36 hours by jet. The strawberries arrived in good condition and sold at 15s a chip. But at present the price of freighting—about 12s a pound—makes regular trading prohibitive, said the firm’s manager, Mr Ewan Donald.
