Amalgamation Confirmed The Heathcote County Council confirmed that it was. in favour of amalgamationwith the Mount Herbert County Council. When the matter was raised in general business, Cr. W. B. Laing said he considered it was too late to discuss the matter. “We have been sitting here for more than four hours,” he said. “I think it should be referred to a special meeting.” The chairman (Mr J. C. Holliss) said there was, at this stage, very little to discuss and said all that was required was confirmation of the earlier motion. The councils will now discuss matters concerning administration. Dyers Pass.— The council’s decision to take action against learner drivers making three-point turns in Dyers Pass road was praised in a letter by Mr A. H. Forrester. He congratulated the council on the “speedy and decisive” way in which the matter was dealt with. Building Permits.—Building I permits to the value of £29,383 were issued during the month. Permit fees amounted to £ll6. Donation.—The council made a grant of £5 to the Christchurch Society for the Protection of Women and Children.
