Coal Sales Seminar
There was room for appreciable improvement in methods of combustion for the generation of steam, Mr K. C. Thornhill, of the Mines Department, told the Coal Sales Seminar at the University of Canterbury yesterday. Mr Thornhill also emphasised the necessity for maintaining correct temperatures and for supplying the correct flows of air through / the boiler furnace to aid efficient combustion. Dr. J. B. Stott, of the University of Otago, ’ addressed the seminar in the morning about the classification of coal. The afternoon address was given by Mr B Jones, director of the Coal Advisory Service Association. Wellington. Mr Jones talked about boilers and firing equipment, and coal-handling and ; storage.
