COMPULSORY PENSIONS

Objections By A.SJLS. (N.Z. Presj Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 20. The Government’s amendment of the Superannuation Bill making superannuation compulsory for permanent Government employees, aged between 17 and 24, amounted to compulsory confiscation of their W’ages, says a statement issued today by the National Council of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants The amendment was passed in the closing stages of the last session of Parliament. The council of the A.S.R.S. had decided to inform the Government that “in our view this imposition on lower-paid employees amounts to compulsory confiscation of portion of their wages without option on their part. “We consider this a complete breach of the often stated policy of the Government of giving individual freedom of choice. If the Government considers membership desirable for lower paid employees, it could well have heeded A.S.R.S. representations over the years.”
