India May Stop Death Penalty

The Indian Prime Minister (Mr Nehru) said today that the Government was considering the abolition of capital punishment, the British United Press reported. Asked in Parliament whether the Government would hang Indians found guilty of passing secret information to foreign countries, he said: “The Government has never thougtvt of it. On the other hand, the Government is thinking of abolishing capital punishment."

Mr Nehru was asked a number of questions from all sides of the House concerning alleged Pakistani espionage activities in India. Mr Nehru said the Government had no definite proof of the existence of Pakistani spy rings in India.
