Judge Hangs i 180 Of 440 (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Of 440 entries in the Kelliher art competition, the judge. Mr J. S. Loxton, of Melbourne, has hung approximately 180. Mr Loxton said he found the paintings generally of a very high standard. “The competition is doing a lot of good for New Zealand artists. There is nothing like it in Australia and, I doubt, anywhere else in the Southern Hemisphere,” he said. The exhibition -will be opened on the night of November 26 by the United States Ambassador. Mr Herbert B. Powell. Prize winners will be announced at the opening and Mrs Powell will present the awards. This year for the first time the competition operates under the Kelliher Art Trust, which has been established in perpetuity. Sir Henry Kelliher, donor of the trust, is expected to attend the opening.
