POLICEMAN’S STATUS
Ruling Quoted In Court (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 20. A submission that 16 charges of theft as a servant against a policeman were not tenable because, according to a Privy Council decision, a policeman was a public officer. not a servant, was made In the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington today by Mr W. V. Gazley. “He was appearing for Frank Raymond Pierce, aged 30, a police constable, of Pahiatua, charged with 16 counts of theft as a servant, of firearms and six charges of forgery of documents relating to firearms. No plea was entered. Mr M. B. Sculy, S.M., adjourned the hearing for a week to allow Detective-Ser-geant R. A. White time to prepare a reply to the submission.
