TRAIN CREW PRAISED
Precautions At Woolston Fire ! Safety precautions taken ;by tlie crew of a train , stopped at the Woolston station at the time of the textile factory fire in Bamford street, Woolston, on Monday evening, were praised by the chief officer of the Christchurch Citizens' Security Service (Mr E. L. Barkle) in a statement. A passenger train from Lyttelton, which arrived at Woolston station about 8.50 p.m. did not proceed until the guard had gone ahead of the train to ensure that the crossing was clear of fire equipment and the public, said Mr Barkle. “In my opinion, and in the opinion of some of the fire-fighters, this action was, owing to the density of the traffic, very considerate and necessary to ensure the safety of the public,” said Mr Barkle. “I would like to thank the crew concerned on behalf of the public and the security officers present.”
