MANGLA DAM COST
World Bank To Assist (N.Z P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) KARACHI, November 15Western countries and the World Bank will meet the soaring costs of the giant Mangla dam in west Pakistan, said to be the highest earth dam in the world. The dam is being built by American contractors for 556.900,000 dollars. The scheme will include a vast system of subsidiary dams and canals to irrigate immense areas of arid west Pakistan and produce more electricity than the whole country now uses. Western countries backing the Mangla project with the World Bank are Britain, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and West Germany.
