Dowling Again Captain
Um West CkrtotchurchUniverslty captain, G. T. Dowling, has been reappointed the Canterbury Hunkes Shield captain for this saaaon. The decision, which has long been accepted by moot M a matter of course, was announced yesterday. Last year, his first in the post, was a highly successful mm for Dowling, bath from personal performances and the manner he handled the team. Dowling was seen at his very best against Wellington when he made a magnificent 206. equalling
the highest ecore for a Canterbury batamaa In Plunket Shield cricket and against an attack which included three New Zealand bowlers. He did not reach thus heights again but waa consistent right through the series. His scores were 31 and 58 v Otago; 206 v Wellington: 8 end 25 v Central Districts: 30 and 33 v. Northern Districts; and 33 and 0 v Auckland. Dowling's total of «3 runs In the series were the most in New Zealand and only 19 runs short of the Canterbury record for a season held by J. OLeggett.
