MID-OCEAN TRANSFER

Medicine For 11l Woman (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SOUTHERN CROSS (At Sea), November .8. In mid-Pacific early today the Shaw Savill liner Southern Cross transferred medical supplies for a sick woman aboard the New Zealand Shipping Company vessel Remuera. The woman was “desperately ill from acute asthma.” The ships hove to 1300 miles from the nearest inhabited island—Easter Island—while the Remuera’s accident boat crossed to receive an oxygen mask and cylinder wrapped in pillows. Most of the 1000 passengers aboard the Southern Cross lined the rails in pyjamas to cheer. The Southern Cross is on its way to Britain. The Remuera is on its way to New Zealand from England. It is scheduled to arrive at Tahiti on November 12. According to the master of the Southern Cross, Captain Leopold Hopkins, the Southern Cross was the only ship with necessary medical supplies between Panama and Tahiti.
