War Graves In Disputed Area

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, November 7. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has still been unable to regain control of the historic Jerusalem (1914-18) war cemetery, according to the commission’s forty-fourth annual report released in London. The cemetery is in a disputed area between Israel and Jordan. The report said It had not been possible to restore the site to a condition worthy of the men commemorated. By the end of the year the task of providing and erecting the 331,840 individual headstones or plaques on the graves of 1939-45 war dead was 99.8 per cent complete, added the report. Only 568 temporary markers remained to be replaced by permanent memorials.
