YARNS AND FABRICS OF WOOL AND OF MANMADE FIBRES. I. The Tariff and Development Board has been requested by the Minister of Customs to inquire into and report to him in accordance with the following order of reference: To determine what treatment by means of Tariff and Import licensing should be given to fibres, yarns, and fabrics of wool, or of manmade fibres, or of mixtures containing either or both of these, so that the maximum use of wool is achieved consistent with the development in New Zealand of the wool manufacturing industry and man-made fibre industry, and having regard also to the reasonable requirements of consumers and users and to the export possibilities of the two industries. The goods concerned are included in the following groups of the Customs Tariff: Fibres—Groups 282 and 266 Yarns—Group 651 Fabrics—Groups 652, 653. 654 and 855. It Is not proposed In the meantime to examine the position regarding articles made from such materials although cognisance will be taken of the fact that such materials are used in the manufacture of other goods In New Zealand. 2. For the purpose of taking evidence on this subject the Board will hold a public inquiry commencing on Tuesday, March 17. 1964, at 10.30 a.m. In the Board Room. Fifth Floor. Bowen State Building. Bowen street, Wellington. 3. Any person who intends to tender evidence should comply with the "Notes for the Guidance of Witnesses." which have been prepared by the Board. A copy of these notes may be obtained from the under-named. A submission regarding any particular type of material should identify it with its present tariff classification by reference to the number of the item concerned. 4. Twelve copies of a typewritten statement of the evidence to be tendered, compiled in accordance with these notes, should be lodged with the under-named not later than Tuesday, March 3, 1964.
