N.A.T.O. FLEET
Rejection Of Plan (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, November 6. The military committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation parliamentarians’ conference today refused to back the American plan for a N.A.T.O. multilateral nuclear fleet, committee sources said. In what was regarded tantamount to a rejection of the plan, the committee decided to drop it from its final recommendations. Only the United Statesand West German delegations backed it Other delegations felt it was politically desirable but of “extremely dubious" military value. The committee called for a system of joint political control over nuclear weapons. It urged that all N.A.T.O. member nations should have “real participation" in planning the alliance’s strategy for its nuclear and conventional forces. The recommendation calling for joint political control will be debated by the Parliamentarians tomorrow or on Friday The committee also suggested further co-ordination of research, development, and production of modern weapons and aircraft which would be too costly for individual NA..T.O. members.
C.IA. Man Shot.— Cuba reported the execution of one American “C.I.A. agent” yesterday and said another was shot to death by police while resisting arrest, United Press International said.— (Havana, November 7.)
