Earl And Countess Of Galloway To Visit City
The Earl and Countess of Galloway, of Kircudbright, and Captain and Mrs W. A. Laird, of Edinburgh, will arrive in Christchurch today for a brief visit. Lord Galloway is the First Grand Principal of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Freemasons of Scotland. Captain Laird is grand secretary of the same order. Lord Galloway is also a past grand master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland.
Widely known as a promoter of the Save the Children Fund, Lord Galloway, who is a member of the fund’s executive council in Britain, will meet the New Zealand executive of the fund at a function in Elizabeth House this evening. Tomorrow morning, Lord and Lady Galloway will be
officially welcomed to the city at a Mayoral reception. In the afternoon, Lord Galloway will be the guest of the commander of the United States Navy’s Antarctic support force (Rear-Admiral J. R. Reedy). The party will later informally meet the GovernorGeneral (Sir Bernard Fergusson).
Lord Galloway and Captain Laird will attend a combined Canterbury, Otago and Westland lodge meeting in the Masonic Temple, Gloucester street, in the evening. On Wednesday morning, the party will be driven to Nelson by Mr and Mrs D. E. McEwan. Lord and Lady Galloway and Captain and Mrs Laird will leave Auckland by air next Sunday on their return to Scotland.
