WOMEN'S CRICKET Western Bowling Too Good For Beckenham
An outright win by Western which dismissed Beckenham for 17 and 31 was the outstanding feature of the Canterbury Women’s Cricket Association’s matches on Saturday. P. Blackler, who took seven for 29 and 56 not out, had a good double, and P. Adair returned the amazing figures of six for 11 and six for five, had the best individual performances; Beckenham v. Western Disaster struck Beckenham which batted first at Linwood Park. With the earl> dismissal of J. Lowe, Beckenham was always in trouble and with E. Fraser contributing nine the side was dismissed for 17. P. Adair and E. Rouse bowled negatively but successfully to return the good figures of six for 5 and three for 5.
Western in reply declared at 51 for no wickets. J. Witte batted well for 12 whilst E. Rouse made a lucky 36. Batting again, Beckenham was dismissed for 31, top-scorer being J Lowe, 18. Once again it was P. Adair, six for 11, and E. Rouse, three for 8, who paved the way for Western’s outright win. St. Albans II v. St. Albans I In a very even match played on Malvern Park, St. Albans II batted first and was dismissed for 92. A. Colville batted quite well, although did not appear so confident against the accurate bowling of P. Blackler and was dismissed for 16. Other bats to reach double figures were K. Wilkinson 11. J. Wilson 13; J. Watson top scored with 19. The successful bowler for St. Albans I was P. Blackler, who took seven wickets for 29. St. Albans I did not start at all well and with 20 runs on the board had lost three wickets. P. Blackler and A. Beardslev then became associated in a fighting partnership and with Blackler batting well for her 56 not out and A. Beardsley 13 being unfortunately run out by a smart return from A. Colville, it looked as if the St. Albans II would win the day. but E. Brownie and Blackler had yet another good partnership and at stumps was 99 for seven. J. Watson deserved her three for 31. Mai Moa v. Technical
Mai Moa batted first and with solid defence and flashes of aggression made a total of 80. A. Giles batted soundly to top score with 29 and the N. White-
J. Edmonds partnership gave the necessary solidity to the side wtlh scores of 14 and 12. The Technical bowlers had several chances dropped off their bowling but still finished with satisfactory figures, P. Moore taking four for 20 and O. Williams four for 42.
Against some tight, accurate bowling by A. Giles Technical had to fight to make the necessary runs. However, with the captain, P. Moore, with 33 not out. J. Goddard 19. M. Williamson 14 and O. Williams 20. batting well, it passed Mai Moa's total, being dismissed for 100. A. Giles, with four for 13, who bowled extremely well, and J. Edmonds two ‘ for 32. were the mainstay of Mai Moa’s attack.
Two excellent catches by D. Rainer and H. Lawson gave Mai Moa a chance, but Technical managed to get tile runs required for a first innings victory.
