Jilaire Succeeds In Masterton Cup

WELLINGTON, November 3. The fourth favourite, Jilaire, driven by J. A. Carmichael, won the Masterton Trotting Cup for C. R. Berkett’s Weedons stable at the Masterton Trotting Club’s annual meeting at Hutt Park Raceway on Saturday night. The favourite. Black Treasure. tried to lead over the last two rounds but both Jilaire and Yakety Yak ran him down in the closing stages. The Stewards' Handicap was won comfortably by Starjohn, which led all the way.

D G. Jones, who drove Starjohn. was also successful on Jojabrod. Both are trained by’ P. Steedman at Ashhurst. Jones drove a third winner. Pegasus, which he trains himself.

A fine, mild night encouraged an attendance of 6090 compared with 2860 last yearj on a bleak Monday night• after the meeting had been; postponed because of bad I weather.
