TROTTING Local John In Demand For Kaikoura Meeting

Local John, a stablemate of the New Zealand Cup favourite, Vanderford. should gain his second win in less than a fortnight at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s annua! meeting today. Local John is engaged in both the Publicans’ Handicap and the President’s Handicap.

Local John beat a smart pacer in Mary Pratt by two lengths on the first night at the recent Greymouth meeting, and two nights later he failed by only a head to beat Backward over 13 furlongs. Local John looks capable of further successes and he should pay expenses today.

Most opposition to him in the Publicans’ Handicap might come from Devolve and Bluff, although the chances of Bruce, Diamond Jay and Frugal cannot be overlooked.

If Locsl John fails in the Publicans’ Handicap, he will have bright prospects of making amends tn the President s Handicap. Diamond Jay could well be suited by the sprint distance cf the latter race •nd might extend Local John, while Devolve. Frugal. Bruce Bluff and a fresh runner in Stormy Mile might also be prominent.

The double will be run on the Kaikoura Cup and the Memori-al Handicap. Orbiter. Peerswick and Lady Charles are selected in the first leg. while Safe Flight. Bonnie Lord and Talent appeal most in the second. Fine weather is forecast •nd the track will be in splendid order 11.28 >.m PUBLICANS’ HANDICAP. £250; 2:l»sec class: IJm.—Blufl (3>. Bruce (2).
