Quiet Month’s Market Local bodies in Christchurch and Canterbury raised £143,850 in loan subscriptions during October, compared with. £359,640 the previous month. Of the three loans current during the month, two were filled, and the third, opened on October 1, is already more than half subscribed A £13,000 Central Canterbury Electric Power Board loan opening today has already been fully subscribed before coming on the market. Some of this money will be used to redeem a matured loan. Details of loan moneys raised last month by each local authority in the Christchurch and Mid-Canterbury areas, with the amount outstanding in each case, are as follows:

Clyde Industries, Ltd., lifted group net profit by £128,045 to £683,145 for the year to June 30, after substantially lower provisions for taxation and depreciation. The result is after taxation £258,760 (down £44,462), depreciation £456,775 (down £53,901) and profit on the sale of assets £107,045 (up £20.422).. A steady 15 per cent ordinary dividend, including a final 74 per cent, claims £537,484.

Queensland Press.—Consolidated net profit of Queensland Press. Ltd., rose from £469,849 to £566.796 for the year to September 30. Mcilwralth McEacharn, Ltd., shipowners, agent and coal contractor, proposes to split its £1 shares into 5s units after its big lift in profit and higher dividend in the year to June 30. Directors say in their annual report for the year to June issued today that they will ask shareholders to approve the splitting of the ordinary and participating preference shares at the annual meeting on November 21.
