Merchant Navy

Sir,—l wonder how many saw the advertisement on page 2 of your paper today. The caption under it is so telling, and there is a sad, lost, lonely look on the fine face of that ‘ seaman. It went straight to my heart and I resolved to do all I could to help the band of men and women working to raise money for a better Seamen's Oab in Lyttelton. Where would we be without overseas ships to carry our wool and all our produce; and the men who serve in them need our care and attention. So good luck to the British Sailors’ Society (Canterbury merchant navy centre) in their efforts tomorrow.— Yours, etc, , JSjC October 31, 1963.
