Arts Council And Drama
Sir,—lt is most disappointing to hear of the breakdown in plans for a tour of “Macbeth” by Ngaio Marsh and our University Drama Society. That this venture
should collapse through the Arts Advisory Council's failure to launch what promised to be a good ffnanciai and artistic investment, is a poor reflection on the support of drama in tttis' country. Surely few would question the value of such a tour. Over the years Miss Marsh and the Undwrsilty Drama Society have established a reputation second to none for their Shakespearian productions Therefore, with no professional company able to commemorate suitably the quater-centenary of Shakespeare’s birth, the proposed tour was admirable. However, the Arts Council seems unperturbed ait our singular lack in marking this occasion and so, even in Internaitional Theanne Year, their small financial asstetance to drama remains quite disproportionate to that give the other arts. Yours, etc., THEATRE-LOVER. October 28, 1933.
