Stakes totalling £6lOO will be distributed by the New Brighton Trotting Club when it holds its first night meeting at Addington on Saturday, December 7. Last year the club gave £5050 in stakes when it held its summer meeting on its own course The main event will be the £llOO President’s Handicap run over two miles. The limit for this race will be 2:13 and faster. Last year the limit was 2:14 and the stake £9OO. The Raceway Handicap will carry a stake of £9OO and will be run over 10 furlongs for horses assessed at 2:14 and faster. Last year the limit of the corresponding race was 2:15 and the stake was £7OO. Horses assessed at 2:15 only will be able to contest the New Brighton Handicap, which will be run over 13 furlongs for a stake of £BOO. Last year this race had a limit of 2:16 and a stake of £650. The limit for the Rawhiti Handicap, the main race for trotters, has been tightened to 2:15, and the stake increased from £550 last year to £BOO. This race will be run over 13 furlongs. The limit for the North Beach Handicap, the other race for trotters, has been tightened one second and the stake increased from £350 to £5OO.
The Members’ Handicap will be run over 13 furlongs for 2:17 class horses only. The s'ake has been increased by £5O to £550. A £5O increase has provided a stake of £450 for 2:18 class horses in the Welcome Handicap, which will be run over 10 furlongs. The stake for the New Zealand Oaks remains unchanged at £lOOO.
