TROTTING Admiral Favoured For First Leg At Oamaru
Admiral won so impressively at Motukarara that he should master two miles too well for most of his rivals in the George Bruce Memorial Handicap tomorrow. This is the main race and first leg of the double on the opening day of the Oamaru Trotting Club’s spring meeting.
Admiral has drawn wide tomorrow and this should help him begin reasonably well. Provided he does not lose much ground at the start he should gain his second win for the season.
Idaho paced his best race after an autumn campaign in Sydney when he finished second to a smart mare in Monapat at the end of a fast two miles at Forbury Park last week. Idaho finished gamely and was beaten by a length. He has improved after every race so far this season and should be ready to make a winning run in his next start or two.
Prinsuva was responsible for Monapat recording taiin 19 4-ssec for two miles at Forbury Park last week. The opposition at Oamaru does not look to be nearly as strong and he should be one of the brightest prospects. Blonde Piper disappointed a shade when he finished sixth after a slow start at Forbury Park. The Gay Piper gelding has not really paced a bad race this season and he cannot be left out of calculations. A win for him would be well received as he is raced by the president of the Oamaru club (Mr W. B. McCone). Mossman, too, must be considered after his splendid third behind Monapat and Idaho at Forbury Park. Had he not had so much trouble working clear of a pocket inside the last half-mile, he would probably have finished closer. He looks to be in for an early win. Intrigue, which finished fifth at Motukarara, and Aero Scott should do best of the others. Carina Star will have to show very little improvement on his second to Orbiter at Forbury Park last Saturday to win the second leg. the October Handicap. Carina Star has not paced a really bad race this season and he look: a very fit fiorse at present.
Garry Kent, an unlucky runner on the first night at Forbury Park, was pulled up after breaking his hopples last Saturday. He will only have to escape trouble to offer strong opposition to Carina Star.
Royal Tartan was placed twice at Forbury Park. He may never graduate far through the classes, but his ability to hold a handy position in his races should enable him to pay his way. He could easily win. Flak Colours Flying, Bonnie Widow. Dieman Lad, Anterior, Light Rain, and Johnny Warrior have all shown useful form in recent weeks and they should be capable of adding interest to the finish. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be hard and fast. Fields, with form, for the double are:—
