Beauzami Impressive At Trentham
“Ths Press" Special Service
WELLINGTON. October 24. Beauzami again made a big
impression when he worked at Trentham today. As in his finial trial before his dose second in the Wellington! Handicap. Beauzami went easily tor a circuit from the mile, increased the pace slightly and then galloped the last half in the best time fior the distance.
Expedite and Sir Barton galtoped best over five furlangs separately, and Lady York did well to beat Rely over a mile in fast time. The madden Bravest ran an exceptionally good trial. Overnight showers hardly affected the course proper, which was firm and is likely to be the same on Saturday. Beauzami (HoHioway), carrying a good weight, went easily in the first part of his trial, but he was quickly at speed starting the last halfmile and completed it in a brilliant 49 4-ssec.
MADE GROUND Expedite (Medclafe) started two lengths behind Corbassiere (Grylls) and Shady (Lundy) when she got to the five furlongs and was with them at the finish in Imin 5 l-ssec, the halfmile in 51 l-ssec and the three furlongs in 37 4-ssec. Expedite ran on the outside and even if the time was not brilliant. Expedite worked strongly and had plenty in reserve. For hacks Corbassiere and Shady did well. The former would be a good prospect In the Rlmutaka Handicap if he can overcome his wide draw. Shady is to race on Monday. Lady York (Riordan) surprised by beating Rely (Cullen) by two lengths over a mile in imin 44 l-ssec, the last five in Imin 6 4-ssec. the four In 50 4-ssec and the three in 36 2-ssec.
It was outstanding work by Lady York and was in marked contrast to her showing in the Heretaunga Handicap last week. Like Shady, she is to be kept for the mile and three furlongs hack race on Monday.
Sir Barton (Hercock) went boldly for five furlongs in Imin ssec. coming from the half-mile in 50 l-ssec and the three furlongs in 36 4-ssec. He is in the Pearce Handicap on Monday. The Desert Gold Stakes favourite Cicada (Worrell), on the outside, was doing better than RondabeUe (Cullen) and Mexicali (Andrews) after six furlongs. the last five in Imin 6 l-ssec and the three in 36 3-5 sec. Cicada could have done much better.
Bravest (CuUen) galloped boldly to beat Fire (Hercock) from the half-mile In 49 4-ssec. On this trial, and his Hastings placing he should be In the money in the Trial Stakes.
TWO-YEAR-OLDS Two Auckland two-year-olds, in separate gallops down the chute, worked well. They were Clipjoint and Sobig. Clipjoint (Riordan) and Boulevard (Worrall) jumped away three lengths in front of Rio (Grylls). They were a length in front of Rio after half a mile in 49sec. Clipjoint, as on looked good in her work. Rio also went well. He was not pushed along when he had made up most of his leeway. Sobig (Medcalfe), Mieke de Hoep (Jones) and Seeaysee (Cullen) were seht out to run about Slsec tor half a mile. They took 51 l-ssec.
Even though he was not required to make time Sobig worked pleasingly. He has lost a lot of his greenness since being at Trentham. Mieke de Hoep did not have to show her usual speed and she galloped quietly and easily under a hold. Alarmist (Grylls) galloped well and ran good time for a hurdler when he covered six furlongs, the last five in Imin 8 2-ssec. Dandeinee (Riordan) went quietly over five furlongs in Imin 9 l-ssec, the last three in 39sec. It has not been decided whether he wiU start in the Awatea Handicap. Kawera (Lawson), which is to race on Monday, went strongly and was not asked to do better than 40 4-ssec for the last three furlongs.
His stablemate Aqaba (Lawson) went faster, completing five furlongs tn Imin 7 2-ssec. the last three in 37 l-ssec. Hello Kinfel also ran five furlongs in Imin 9 4-ssec, the last three strongly in 37 4-ssec. The maidens Clayton King (Medcalfe) and Fair Elizabeth (Grylls) took Imin Bsec for five furlongs, with Fair Elizabeth doing the better. Nell (Tyacke) showed brilliant speed from the three furlongs in 35 4-ssec.
Blyton (Grylls) was four lengths In front of Nett Price (Andrews) at the five furlongs and was eased back so that Nett Price was almost with her at the post. Blyton took Imin 7sec, the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec and could have done much better.
Dacron (Jones) went with surprising speed and dash from the six furlongs, the last five in Imin 5 4-ssec and three in 37 3-ssec.
Aloft (Hercock) from the same stable, was about as good, taking Imln 6sec and 37 l-ssec. Another stablemate. Fast Lad (Riordan), was not asked to go quickly and took Imin llsec for five furlongs, the last three in 41sec. The maiden Fair Vision (Cullen), which was eliminated from the Trial Stakes and is entered for the Novice Handicap on Monday, galloped easily over half a mile in 53 2-ssec. MOVED FREELY Elkayel (Andrews) started from the mile. He went easily to the five furlongs and came from there in Imln 9sec, the last four in sisec. He seemed freer in his action' than earlier at the meeting. The Nob (Grylls) and Velvet (Jones) worked from the six furlongs and took Imin 7 4-5 sec for the last five and 39sec for the last three. Both have done well since racing on the first day and Velvet is a place prospect for the Desert Gold Chef (Holloway), which is in Seat order for the Rimu urdles, came evenly from the mile at a Zmin rate. Le Plus (A. Ford) galloped half a mile in 51 l-ssec, doing it well, and Magic Mirror (Grylls) took the same time, being eased down at the end of the last three furlongs In 38sec Dunmure (Jones), galloping greenly, came down the straight four furlongs in 51 l-ssec and Shiloko (Wylie) beat Tampa (Goss) by two lengths over the same ground in 52 2-ssec.
