FERRYMEAD PARK

Council Starts First Stage

The Heatoco'e County Council has started work on the first stage of its new park at Ferrymead. An eld netting fence is being replaced with a new paling fence and kowhai trees have been nlanted be’ween ‘he homestead and Bridle Pa’h read. An area of abcut an acre alongside the road is to be kept mowed and will be available for picnics. The roadside frontage to the property is ailso being tidied. The council has also decided to construct a groyne near toe entrance to Ferrymeed to stop toe Heatoerte river from scouring toe bank. The reclaimed area above the groyne will be used as a car park. The council’s town-plan-ning consultant <Mr J. Foster) is preoaring a report on toe advisebiMty of a new scenic road linking Ferrymead with the road tunnel clover-leaf at Hbrotane Valley or Truscotts road, which runs alongside toe railway line into Heatocote.

If the council goes ahead with this suggestion, it will be possible to drive from Bridle Path read through the Ferrymead area to toe railway.

The report will be considered bv the council’s town-vlanning ccmmottee. Dcnat’ons from toe public are still being received by the council to assist the Ferrymead development project.
