Singapore’s newly-elected Legislative Assembly met for the first time today with five of the 14 Opposition members missing. Three members of the Opposition Barisan Sosiali* Party are being held without trial in prison under a public security ordinance. The other two are being sought bv police. In the last Legislative Council, the ruling People’s Action Party, led by Mr Lee Kuan Yew. had only 25 seat* in -he 51-member Assembly’ Their recent electoral victory gave they 37 seats.
