Air Pageant Spectacular Display
A spectacular display at the air pageant at the Rangiora airfield on Sunday afternoon will be provided
by a formation aerobatic team from the central flying school, R.N.Z.AjF. station. Wigram. The team will give
a 17 minute exhibition over the airfield. A further exhibition of aerobatics will be given by the assistant chief instructor of the Canterbury Aero Club (Mr N. Gibson) in the club’s Auster Aiglet trainer. Intricate flying manoeuvres will be executed by a radio operated model under the control of Mr D. Hamilton. This will feature the difficult outside loop not normally attempted in manually operated planes. Another highlight of the afternoon may be the appearance of a helicopter from Airwork (N.Z.) Ltd. This, however, is not definite and the demonstration of this machine will depend on its working commitments. There is also a prospect of a Vieta Tourer from Oamaru being on display. This particular plane is the first production model in New Zealand of this Australian produced plane. An aerial topdressing display will be given by Airwork (N.Z.) Ltd., with its new Pawnee 235, which has almost double the power of earlier models.
A variety of planes will take part in a handicap over a two lap course. Some of the planes competing in this will be two Piper cubs, an Auster Aiglet and a Piper tri-pacer.
Starting from about midday, for the earlier arrivals, joy rides will be provided throughout the afternoon in an Apache and two Piper tri-pacers.
The public will be kept informed of the afternoon’s activities over a public address system.
