A Short Measure
Cricket umpires have sharp eyes. When Messrs. T. Mathie and L. C. Moore arrived at Elmwood Park for the first match of the season between Old Collegians and Riccarton, they took one look at the pitch and promptly measured it. It waa one foot short.
When the pitch had been marked out, the measurement had been made With a piece of string which had served a similar purpose last season. But it nad shrunk, presumably because of the protracted wet weather. Bat If cricket umpires have sharp eyes, they are capable of closing their blind ones. Because of the confusion new markings would almost certainly bare produced, they did nothing.
