FAIR RAISES £1100
Mairehau H.S. Baths Project The total profit from the barbecue fair was well in excess of £llOO and that, with the £2400 already in hand, provided ample funds for the first stage of the construction of the school swimihing pool, said Mr A. B. Rwan, headmaster of Mairehau High School, in his report to the board of governors yesterday. Plans had been prepared and tenders would close on October 29. The first stage would comprise the actual pool complete with filtration plant installed and necessary fencing. After consolidation had taken place, a concrete concourse would be laid and permanent housing for the filtration plant erected. Dressing sheds would come laiter, said Mr Ryan’s report. Members of the board of governors were ait school assembly and Mr A. A. Cook, chairman of the board, congratulated the pupils and their parents and the staff on the success of the fair. On the recommendation of Mr Ryan, the board decided to apply for a subsidy of £ 1500 on the cost of the construction of the pool, and £5OO on the cost of installing the filtration plant.
