CIRCULAR TO COUNCILLORS
“Officer Severely Reprimanded”
The report distributed to city councillors just before the meeting bn Monday evening was part of an older one prepared by the City Engineer's department, the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. H. P. Smith) explained on Tuesday An officer of the council who was. strongly opposed to fluoridation of the city water supply had taken it on himself to circulate the report. Cr. Smith said. The report, which was on the city water supply, had nothing to do with the question of fluoridation. The council officer had had copies mode .and had asked traffic officers to deliver the reports to councillors, apparently on the traffic officers’ w®y home to tea, Cr. Smith said. The traffic officers had accepted what they regarded as a normal request, for it was not unusual for them to deliver urgent mail to councillors. The officer had been severely reprimanded, Cr. Smith said. He had no right to do what he did. It was . done without the knowledge of his department and without the knowledge of any councillor.
