ATTORNEYGENERAL
Charges Heard In Secret
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, October 21. A verdict is expected to be given tomorrow at the secret nearing of charges of unprofessional conduct against the Attorney-General, Sir John Hobson, who appeared today before the Masters of the Bench of the Inner Temple in London
The charges are related to his handling of the Chief Enahoro affair. Sir John Hobson faces “sentences” ranging from a reprimand to a period of suspension or disbarment if he is found guilty by his legal peers.
Between 20 and 40 of the Masters were believed to have heard the charges. Sir John Hobson, Conservative member of Parliament for Warwick and Leamington, is fighting for his political career, as well as his professional honour. His accuser is Mr Reginald Paget, Q.C., Labour member of Parliament for Northampton. Sir John Hobson is said to have failed to disclose in an affidavit that the Nigerian Government had told the Home Secretary (Mr Brooke) that two British barristers would not be allowed to appear for Enahoro at his trial.
